Boufe Boutique Cafe is tucked away in the same corner of Tanglin as Spruce. Located pretty deep within Phoenix Park, it’s not exactly the most accessible, but it’s not ulu either.
Its menu consists of pretty standard brunch stuff – variations of Eggs Benedict, pasta, truffle-infused dishes, and a wide selection of snacks, desserts, and drinks.
BUT… take a closer look and you’ll spot Instagram gems like “Milky Way” and “Mini Unicorn Cake”.
The Mini Unicorn Cake was sold out when I went, but the Milky Way cake was available! I managed to snag one of the last few pieces. The description reads, “White chocolate yoghurt mousse, honey genoise, chocolate sable & calamansi jelly”.
It was delicious! It tasted just as good as it looked. The sponge cake was just the right consistency – moist, yet not too soggy. It’s not jelak, but light enough to be an after-meal dessert. The mousse was sweet but not cloying. The overall flavour was a little bit creamy, a little bit citrusy. I think it’d be perfect with a cup of hot tea.
However, I didn’t get a cup of hot tea. What I did get, though, was something much better!
That magical concoction is “Twilight”, which is “infused with honey and lime”. I don’t know what the base is. The whole thing tasted a lot like honey, and a little like lime. This is one of those drinks you’d order just for the novelty instead of the flavour. If you decide to try this, make sure you pour the honey much slower than I did. Just drizzle it in slowly; you’ll get a much cleaner colour-changing effect.
Unfortunately, Boufe is not open for dinner. I only arrived 20 minutes before closing (after their kitchen had already closed), so I didn’t get to try any of their main dishes. Do go early, or you might find that your first choice of cake has sold out!
